Zu Gast bei Interior Designer Michael Felix Kijac in Hamburg
Es gibt Räume, die man betritt. Und es gibt Räume, die einen empfangen.
In einer Hamburger Altbauwohnung aus der Jahrhundertwende öffnet Michael Felix Kijac die Tür zu einem Esszimmer, in dem historische Architektur auf zeitgenössisches Interior Design trifft. Historischer Stuck zeichnet sich an Wänden und Decken ab, lange Samtvorhänge rahmen die Fenster. Die Wände sind in ein tiefes Olivgrün gehüllt, das den Raum zusammenfasst und ihm eine beinahe intime Atmosphäre verleiht. Im Mittelpunkt steht ein sorgfältig gedeckter Esstisch. Schwarze Tischplatte, verchromte Beine, Vintage-Stühle mit braunen Cordbezügen. Silber, Glas und Stoffe reflektieren das natürliche Licht und setzen feine Akzente im Raum.
Der eigentliche Blickfang befindet sich jedoch hinter dem Tisch. Die Wand öffnet sich zu einer Wolkenlandschaft. Die ikonische Fornasetti-Tapete lässt die Grenze zwischen Raum und Vorstellung verschwimmen. Ein großer Spiegel greift die Szenerie auf, verdoppelt sie und verleiht ihr zusätzliche Tiefe. Selbst auf den Schubladen zweier Konsolen findet sich das Wolkenmotiv wieder und verbindet Einrichtung und Architektur zu einer gemeinsamen Erzählung.

Michael, dieser Raum wirkt wie eine Inszenierung. Wo beginnt für dich Raumgestaltung?

Eigentlich beginnt sie immer bei der Frage, wie sich ein Raum anfühlen soll. Viele Menschen denken zuerst an Möbel. Für mich stehen oft die Wände am Anfang. Sie sind die größte Fläche im Raum und prägen die Atmosphäre stärker als jedes einzelne Objekt. Farben und Tapeten sind weit mehr als dekorative Elemente. Sie geben Räumen Struktur, schaffen Orientierung und verleihen ihnen Identität. Erst wenn diese Grundlage stimmt, können Möbel, Textilien und Leuchten ihre Wirkung entfalten.

Du sprichst oft davon, Räume „einzukleiden“.

Weil es genau das ist. Ein gutes Farbkonzept umfasst nicht nur die Wandfarbe. Es bezieht Boden, Türen, Stoffe, Möbel und Licht mit ein. Alles steht miteinander in Beziehung. Ich vergleiche das gern mit einem Mobile. Jede Veränderung beeinflusst das gesamte Gleichgewicht. Am Ende entsteht Harmonie nicht durch einzelne schöne Elemente, sondern durch ihr Zusammenspiel. Gerade deshalb beschäftige ich mich intensiv mit Wandgestaltung. Sie bildet die Grundlage, auf der alles andere aufbauen kann.

Viele hätten vermutlich zu Weiß gegriffen. Du hast den Raum bewusst dunkel gehalten.

Das ist wahrscheinlich einer der größten Irrtümer in der Innenarchitektur: dass helle Räume automatisch besser oder größer wirken. Mich interessiert oft das Gegenteil. Warum versuchen wir eigentlich ständig, kleine Räume größer erscheinen zu lassen? Viel spannender finde ich es, ihnen Charakter zu geben. Wenn Wände und Decke in einem gemeinsamen Farbton gestaltet werden, entsteht eine besondere Ruhe. Der Raum wird zum Schmuckkästchen. Er wirkt nicht größer – aber bedeutender. Das Olivgrün nimmt hier den historischen Stuck auf und schafft gleichzeitig die perfekte Bühne für die Einrichtung.

Solche Konzepte entstehen selten allein. Welche Bedeutung haben Partner in deinem kreativen Prozess?

Eine sehr große. Gute Gestaltung entsteht aus Dialog. Gerade bei Tapeten geht es nicht nur darum, ein schönes Muster auszuwählen. Es geht um Proportionen, Farbwirkung, Materialität und die Frage, wie ein Motiv im konkreten Raum funktioniert. Deshalb schätze ich Partner wie euch, die nicht nur Produkte anbieten, sondern ihr Wissen teilen und gemeinsam nach der besten Lösung suchen. Bei diesem Projekt war genau das der Fall. Die Zusammenarbeit war geprägt von Austausch, Erfahrung und einem gemeinsamen Verständnis dafür, dass Wandgestaltung ein wesentlicher Teil der Raumwirkung ist.

Was verbindet deine Arbeit als Interior Designer mit unserer Leidenschaft für Tapeten?
M I C H A E L F E L I X K I J A C
Die Überzeugung, dass Räume Geschichten erzählen. Wir erinnern uns selten an die Größe eines Raumes. Wir erinnern uns daran, wie wir uns in ihm gefühlt haben. An das Licht. An Materialien, die man berühren möchte. An Gespräche an einem Tisch. An die Atmosphäre eines Ortes. Wenn Wandgestaltung und Einrichtung zusammenspielen, entsteht mehr als ein schönes Interieur. Es entsteht ein Raum mit Persönlichkeit. Und genau das macht für mich gutes Design aus.
Manche Räume beeindrucken durch ihre Größe. Andere durch ihre Ausstattung.
Dieser Raum bleibt in Erinnerung, weil alles miteinander verbunden ist: Architektur, Farbe, Licht, Einrichtung und Wandgestaltung. Und weil eine Wand voller Wolken genügt, um ein gemeinsames Essen in eine kleine Geschichte zu verwandeln.

Für dieses Setting wurde die ikonische Wolkentapete Nuvolette, Soot & Snow von Fornasetti eingesetzt. Die Auswahl und Beratung erfolgte in Zusammenarbeit mit der Tapetenagentur, die Interior Professionals und Privatkunden bei der Suche nach passenden Wandkonzepten begleitet.

Michael Felix Kijac ist Interior Designer aus Hamburg. In seinen Projekten verbindet er historische Architektur mit zeitgenössischen Konzepten und entwickelt Räume, die Persönlichkeit, Atmosphäre und Funktion in Einklang bringen. Sein Fokus liegt auf ganzheitlichen Gestaltungskonzepten, bei denen Farben, Materialien, Möbel und Licht als zusammenhängendes System gedacht werden.

Mich interessiert oft das Gegenteil. Warum versuchen wir eigentlich st\u00e4ndig, kleine R\u00e4ume gr\u00f6\u00dfer\nerscheinen zu lassen? Viel spannender finde ich es, ihnen Charakter zu geben. Wenn W\u00e4nde und Decke in einem\ngemeinsamen Farbton gestaltet werden, entsteht eine besondere Ruhe. Der Raum wird zum Schmuckk\u00e4stchen. Er wirkt\nnicht gr\u00f6\u00dfer \u2013 aber bedeutender.
